From the Society’s Chairman

It has been an exciting time for Abbeyfield Bristol Society of late. We have now opened our new house in Redland, we have work starting soon to build a communal living room and garden room at our Westbury Road house and we have other plans to increase the number of places we can offer older people. We would greatly appreciate an opportunity to tell you about our services. We remain committed to offering older people a real alternative for housing in later years in Bristol and South Gloucestershire.

Supported Sheltered Housing is a unique form of housing for older people, irrespective of means, which allows residents to maintain a high degree of independent living whilst, at the same time, having the reassurance of a supportive network of people close at hand. The principles of Abbeyfield provide for care and companionship, dignity and support amongst other benefits we believe our senior citizens are due, whilst at the same time ensuring access to everyone where ever possible.

Our residents, and the continuation of an independent but cared for lifestyle, are the most important aspect of everything we do.

We are not a Residential or Nursing Home, nor do we charge nursing home rates. Our inclusive charges are significantly lower than many people think, and our high level of services are another welcome surprise. Details can be found throughout this website, or by calling us.

We currently have houses in Clifton, Easter Compton, Henleaze and Redland and are in the midst of an exciting period of development. We have plans in progress to enhance our existing houses following the opening of a flagship house in Redland which allow us to offer one bedroom flats for the first time. We also hope to significantly increase our offer of supported sheltered housing in South Gloucestershire with plans under discussion for Hanham.

If you, a member of your family or an older friend, would benefit from a move into an environment where the day to day worries of living on your own can be alleviated, but are worried about going into “a home”, we’d be happy to talk with you. We like to think of our houses as a collection of individuals’ homes within one supportive house. We think you will appreciate the difference.

We hope you find the information on this website of interest. Please call us on 0117 973 6997 if you would like more details. We look forward to hearing from you.
